Final Edits of my Digipak and Poster

This is my final edit of my Digipak, I added the Twitter and Facebook logo to show that our artist DJ DES is a promoted artist as she is on social networking sites. I also chose to add a segment of copyright text as I believe this makes the Digipak look more realistic.

Evaluation Powerpoint

We wanted to use lots of little clips of different things, getting ready to go out being the main subject but to break it up into a whole storyline by intersecting clips of dancing to give a better feel of the video and the message we were trying to put across which was sleep all day and party all night which is why we used the clips at the start of the sun rising and DJ DES getting out of bed.
For some of the conventions we looked at a variety of other music videos to see the kinds of things that would be portrayed for our genre. For instance with the bright colours in ‘Who’s That Chick?’ by Rihanna we thought we would take a look at it and then found that we quite like the lyrics coming up over the video clips which inspired us to experiment with our own work.
NOTION OF LOOKING
-We chose to follow the conventions of Goodwin’s theory and show the notion of looking. We repeated this convention a few times throughout the music video, this gives the audience an insight into a personal feel to the artist.
LYRICS AND VISUALS
- We chose to apply lip transfers to DJ DES so it made the clip a bit more exciting and brighter. We also chose to cover the clips with a brightly coloured effect for the clip in another part of the music video so it showed an interesting side to the artist and was quite similar to other music videos of the same genre.
- To link the lyrics and visuals we also chose to use the technique of layering the lyrics over the video and adding an effect over the clip to completely drain the imagery of colour so that the lyrics stand out even more. We also chose to juxtapose the lyrics with the clip of the legs dancing to get the right feel of the music video genre.
We decided to include lots of different types of shots because we thought that overall it would make the music video much more interesting so we decided to so quite a few close up shots of relevant parts of the video for example on the clips where DJ DES is singing. Also we tried a number of photo animations which were as you all probably know lots of photographs taken with a slight change and then all put on a timeline to create a small clip. I find the animations quite interesting and a fun way of adding more footage as its more interesting to watch.  Also we added many effects to our clips which mainly adjusted the colour, bringing life to the footage to make it more vibrant.
We used a range of new media whilst making our  music video ranging from social networking sites to gather feedback to and online calender so every member in our team knew our schedule and personal deadlines we had set. We also used the everyday products like our phones as we used them to text and call each other to arrange when we were meeting up to film. We also used our phones to play the song out loud as we tried to get the lips synced with the lyrics as close as possible and once again with the dancing clips we had to play the song out loud so we could get the dancing to go with the beat.

Our Final Music Video

24-02-2012

Today we had our final music video screenings and showed the rest of the class our poster and digipak designs to get some feedback and see if there was anything we needed to improve on.

It was good to get some feedback on what we had added to our music video from the last time we showed it to the class. Also, it was nice to get some feedback on my digipak and poster just to see if it looked like they linked together. I have a few minor changes to make and then I think I have finished all of my pieces.

The Poster.

Screen shot of my Poster

This is the new edit of my poster that I have made, I chose to change the old one slightly just so there was more of a link between my digipak and my poster. I believe it is better to have a link between the two other wise people may not know the two are for the same artist whereas when they are quite similar a customer could just walk into a shop and know what they are looking for after seeing the poster. However, I do like the new version slightly more as I feel it is an improvement on the old one with the same colour scheme as my digipak. Overall, I am happy with the outcome.

The Digipak.

Screenshots of my Digipak

I was playing around with the effects on the images and I got one that created a kind of silhouetted image and I decided to change the hue/saturation to create different colours so I chose green, pink and blue. I really like how these have turned out as they are all quite bright and the contrast works really well.

I really like how my digipak is starting to look as I decided to change it because there wasn't much of a link between the poster and the digipak after I made my poster so I decided to start from scratch again. I also chose to take shots from the music video to create the discs and kept them black and white as they are to keep a contextual reference to the music video. However, I changed the contrast to keep them similar to the other images with a high contrast.

For the front cover I have chosen to use my favourite out of the images I have used, another reason that I chose to do this is because this one is the only one that is quite close up so the others are quite similar, making the digipak look slightly symmetrical. I then chose to use the same font as I used for my poster with the album name and artist name.

For the back of the digipak I am writing the song titles in the font I have previously used but just making it smaller so it suits  the style more and is easier to use.

Today I managed to finish my digipak and poster to the quality I am happy with. I am happy with the overall outcome and the fact that I have included references between the two products and also references to the music video. Also, we added the finishing touches to our music video, ready for when we return from our half term so we can screen our final product to the rest of our class and maybe gain some further feedback on what we have tried to improve upon from our first screening.

Screen shots of my Digipak process

Here are all the screenshots that I made of the process of my digipak. I decided to use colours of the images as a theme of the digipak so I decided to make the song titles of the same colours. Also as you can see in the last one I decided to include the barcode and the Sony BMG logo to make it look more realistic. I'm quite happy with the outcome. There are lots of connotations linking the digipak to the poster and the high-contrasted images make the link to our music video and our idea of sleep all day and party all night.

Edit of the Poster

Poster Edit

I made some edits from the last poster as I thought the alignment wasn't very good as 'DJ DES' was on the other side to the rest of the font. I thought this looked slightly odd so I moved the text all aligned to the left. I also chose to add in the Sony BMG logo although I had to invert this on Photoshop as it is originally white with black text. I am happier with this outcome as I think it flows better as the text has been adjusted.

First edit of my poster

Poster

These are screen shots that I decided to take of the process of my poster being made. I started off with an image from the photo shoot that we made to get sufficient photos to be included in our individual posters and digipaks. I wanted to make Emily 'DJ DES' to stand out so i got rid of the background and decided to make it completely black because I thought this would give the best effect. I then started to play around with the effects on Photoshop, I wanted to get a posterised effect so there was more texture to her face. I then added the text. I wanted to make the text quite bold by using bright colours as it goes along with our theme.

I have chosen to take these screenshots from our music video as I want to include them in my digipak to make sure there is a variety in the imagery on my digipak. I think using these images is a good idea so there is a reference to something that is included in the video. Also I think I would like to change the contrast on the images so it looks more like a black and white image however, I am not going to add an effect to these images as they are meant to look like line drawings in the music video as they have already had an effect added to them.

Photographs from the shoot.

I've uploaded some of my favourite photos from the photo shoot that we made in order to get the best outcome for our digipaks and posters. I think I would be happy using any of these images. I would like to add effects to these images to push the quality even further and make them more colourful.
This is the image I have decided to use for my poster. I chose to make this image black and silver as I am going to place text over the top so I think it will look better than if the image was colourful aswell. I think having a black and silver image should make the text stand out more making the poster more eye-catching overall.

These three images are the ones I chose from the photoshoot to edit and I created this silohuetted image. I do like these as they are high in contrast making them quite bright and stand out.

Sunset Video

This is the first attempt at the sunset clip that we want to include in our video. We are hoping to reshoot this but we want to include it in our video for now to see what it looks like, we want to make it into a timelapse video by speeding it up.

27-01-2012

In today's lesson we were making space for the other bits of film that we needed to include. Also we decided to continue with the split screens and line effects. To develop this further we chose to multiply the same image over and over again with more and more colours. I think this gives a great effect whilst making the music video look quite professional at the same time.
